HSPS Finance Manager - Ref. JB27472
The Faculty of Human, Social, and Political Science comprises the Departments of Archaeology and Anthropology, Sociology, and Politics and International Studies: it has 77 academic staff, approximately 100 contract research and teaching staff and approximately 60 assistant staff.
Applications are invited for an experienced Finance Manager to deliver a comprehensive accounts function for the Faculty including overseeing day to day management of the transaction processing, monitoring expenditure, disseminating information on general ledger accounts and research grants, resolving queries and supervising 4 members of staff.
The post holder will also set up budgets, record and report on the various institutions' performance against devolved core budgets and recovery of grant costs under full economic costing, provide financial forecasts and supply financial management reports to the Heads of Department and Division, PIs and Administrators.
He/she will maintain and update all financial procedures to ensure financial transactions take place within University and Sponsor guidelines.
Candidates must be educated to degree level standard, have a financial accounting qualification (as a minimum AAT), have detailed knowledge of the University account processes and procedures, and of the Oracle Financials System, and have strong pc skills, especially with Excel. They must have considerable administrative level experience within a finance environment, preferably within a University Department.
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills, with a positive, service-oriented, can-do attitude, and also tact and diplomacy. He/she must be able to deal with people at all levels, and to synthesise and present complex policies and the work of the Finance Team effectively to Department, Faculty and School Committees. They will be able to work independently and have a pro-active approach to troubleshooting and problem solving. Attention to detail, a high level of accuracy and effective time management are essential.
